Roads to Buckhorn

Information continues to evolve about the road conditions on various routes to Buckhorn. Stay up to date with the latest information by checking with the California Department of Transportation.

As of June 14, 2019, road conditions are as follows according to CDT:

Hwy 243: Closed from 2.3 mi north of Pine Cove /at Round Robin Dr./ To 11.1 mi south of Banning /at Skyland Ranch Rd/ (Riverside Co) - Due to mudslide repairs - Motorists are advised to use an alternate route.

SR 74: Closed from 2.1 mi east of Valle Vista /at Willowbrook Rd/ to the junction of SR 243 (Riverside Co) - Due to flood repairs - Motorists are advised to use an alternate route - The route will be open with a pilot car escort from 4:00 AM to 8:00 am & from 6:00 PM to midnight Monday-Friday, and from 4:00 AM to midnight Saturday and Sunday through 9/3/19.

There will be a pilot car available through the Hemet route 6:00 AM - midnight July 4th - July 7th, meaning this route could be available to you on your way to Reunion July 5th!

*If any information changes, we will update this page. If you have questions about road conditions, please direct them to Denise Leichter at denise@cofchrist-psi.org or Emily Rose at erose@cofchrist-psi.org.

Plan Ahead for Travel to Buckhorn!

Although there is a pilot car available if you drive to Buckhorn through Hemet, there are various alternate routes that are not limited by windows of travel time with a pilot car. Below are two routes to Buckhorn that are fully open and available. They will likely add some travel time to your normal drive to camp, so plan ahead!

If you are coming from the East, the best route is through Palm Desert to Mountain Center, as shown on the map below:

If you are coming from the St. George, UT, or Las Vegas, NV areas, the fastest route to Buckhorn will be to drive through the Mojave National Preserve to Twenty Nine Palms, as shown in the map below:

If you are coming from the North West, West, or South, the best route will be through Temecula to Anza, as shown in the maps below:

Special Events at Reunion

  • We will have opportunity for baptisms on Sunday morning in the Chapel of the Pines. If you would like to be baptized at Reunion, please contact Denise Leichter.

  • A Special Mission Center Conference will be Sunday afternoon at 2pm in the Chapel of the Pines. We will consider the call for Emily Rose to the office of Seventy, and if approved her ordination will happen that afternoon.

Worship

  • Musicians needed! Please let us know if you play an instrument and would like to share your gifts in worship or devotions.

  • If you are interested in participating in worship through readings, prayers, art, etc., please let Denise Leichter or Emily Rose know!

12 step meetings

12 Step meetings will be facilitated and offered each afternoon. Please see Martin Ozolins for 12 Step Meeting Times & Locations.

Evening snacks

We discovered last year that we do not have the permits necessary to serve food from the canteen kitchen. Instead, we will be offering evening snacks on the patio outside the dining hall, and they will all be free! We look forward to a time of food and fellowship at the close of each day.

Health and wellness

Remember to drink water! Because Buckhorn is at a high altitude, it is easy to get dehydrated quickly. Remember to bring your reusable water bottle. Alternatively, the camp vending machines will be available with bottled water, along with Pepsi products.

Pack your sunscreen! Although Buckhorn is graced with beautiful pine trees for shade, you will still want to pack sunscreen to protect your skin.

Pray for Reunion

Please continue to make our Reunion a matter of prayer. We will be exploring the theme “Following the Spirit,” and expect a week of personal "Calling, Hope and Possibilities” in the midst of Community with Christ!
